Yu zheng (constraint)

Stress & anxiety

Tension, worry and a tight chest. How stress shows up in sleep, digestion and your cycle, approached through keeping Liver qi moving.

When people come in

  • Feeling tense, restless or unable to switch off
  • Chest tightness, sighing, tight shoulders
  • Digestion or periods going off track under pressure

The Chinese medicine view

TCM links emotional ease with the Liver keeping qi flowing. Long-term stress constrains Liver qi, which spills over into digestion, sleep and the cycle.

Common patterns

Liver qi stagnation

Chest tightness, sighing, low mood

Constraint turning to heat

Irritability, headaches, bitter taste

Heart and Spleen deficiency

Overthinking, palpitations, fatigue

Phlegm and qi binding

Lump in the throat, chest oppression

Patterns are identified by a practitioner through all four examinations. They are here to explain the thinking, not for self-diagnosis.

The medical view

Stress and anxiety are common, but persistent symptoms, panic attacks or low mood need assessment by a doctor or mental-health professional. TCM care can support that; it does not replace therapy or psychiatric medication.
