Weak defensive qi
Frequent colds & constitution
Catching every cold that goes around. Understand your constitution and adjust routine and diet.
When people come in
- Frequent colds and sore throats

- Slow recovery after illness
The Chinese medicine view
TCM calls the body’s outer defence wei qi; when the Lung, Spleen or Kidney is weak it does not hold, and illness gets in easily.
Common patterns
Weak Lung defence
Sweats easily, catches colds, dislikes wind
Spleen and Lung qi deficiency
Tired, poor appetite, phlegm
Kidney yang deficiency
Feeling cold, cold hands and feet
Patterns are identified by a practitioner through all four examinations. They are here to explain the thinking, not for self-diagnosis.
The medical view
Frequent illness can also relate to poor sleep, stress, anaemia or other conditions. High fever, breathlessness or a cough over three weeks needs medical care. TCM care is not a substitute for vaccination.
Persistent high fever, breathlessness or chest pain: seek urgent care.
