Preparing to conceive
Preconception care
Prepare for what is next. Care for yourself now. Review your cycle, nutrition, sleep and medication as you prepare for pregnancy.
When people come in
- Planning a pregnancy
- Building sustainable food and sleep routines
- Exploring TCM alongside preconception checks
The Chinese medicine view
Chinese medicine links reproduction with the Kidney and with balanced Qi and Blood. Understanding your constitution, cycle and routine is the starting point.
Common patterns
Kidney Qi deficiency
Weak lower back, low energy, light flow
Qi and Blood deficiency
Pale face, dizziness, fatigue
Liver Qi constraint
Stress, poor sleep, premenstrual symptoms
Patterns are identified by a practitioner through all four examinations. They are here to explain the thinking, not for self-diagnosis.
The medical view
Preparing for pregnancy includes both partners’ health, medical history and medication safety. Discuss supplements, vaccination and existing health conditions with your medical clinician.
What the consultation covers
Elizabeth reviews your cycle, symptoms, food, movement and stress to discuss individual supportive care. The focus is sustainable wellbeing, without requiring a fixed course before trying to conceive.
Therapies that may be discussed: Herbal medicine
What to bring
- Cycle or ovulation records, if available
- All medication, herbs and supplements
- Relevant health and pregnancy history
Questions
Must I complete three months of treatment first?
There is no universal timeline. Do not delay a needed fertility assessment to complete a course of complementary care.
Should my partner be involved?
Fertility involves both partners. Shared health information and, when needed, assessment for both are helpful.
