Chicken soup isn’t always good when you have the flu.

Chicken soup isn’t always good when you have the flu.

In Chinese medicine, chicken is warm and tonifying.

So if you have a fever, sore throat, yellow phlegm, warming foods can actually make your symptoms worse.

If you take tonifying foods too early,

your body may “trap” the pathogen inside, which slows down recovery.

Chinese Medicine also understands the flu as different types — such as wind-cold, wind-heat, or deficiency types.

Chicken soup can be helpful if your body is weak, cold, or recovering after being sick.

The key is to choose the right food based on your body’s condition.
